Aitana Bonmati highlights the persistent problems in women's football in Spain.
Aitana Bonmati, the current Ballon D’Or holder and recent World Cup winner with Spain, gave a damning interview to L’Equipe during the last international break, which threw up a whole list of issues surrounding the treatment of women’s football in Spain.
Despite Spain’s historic World Cup win in August last year drawing in record viewing figures in the country, Bonmati doesn’t believe that the feat has been recognised in terms of leaving a legacy which will help the next generation and raise the standards of the game in Spain.
Bonmati used the example of England to show how far behind Spain are lacking after a major success at international level in terms of knock-on effects for both the national team and the local game.
