Spain started the year in which they will aim for more silverware at this summer’s Euros, with a hard-fought home win against Belgium.

It was not an entirely convincing one at that either, but it showed that Montse Tome’s side have the mentality to fight to the end to come away with a victory, a sign of a world-class team.

Tome named a strong side for the opening Nations League game against Belgium in Valencia as she looks to explore her options, nail down her preferred starting XI and get some wins to help Spain build confidence ahead of Switzerland in the summer.

Indeed, the double-header against Belgium in the Nations League, a competition Spain won last year, acts as a dress rehearsal for the Euros with the two sides meeting on matchday two in Thun.
