Ronaldinho takes the Kings League to a whole new level
It’s been a while since we last wrote about the Kings League in our Substack, with lots happening during that time. But nothing stands out as much as the stellar appearance of the one and only Ronaldinho Gaúcho.
The Brazilian legend played on Sunday evening for Porcinos F.C. at the age of 42, generating massive expectation before and during the match.
The Kings League, experts at building up hype, hadn’t achieved such a brutal response with their masked player (aka Nano Mesa) or even with Sergio Agüero who dressed up as a clown to then reveal his identity before one of the games, earlier this season.
Those were some big moments that attracted a large audience, but they definitely weren’t as captivating as Ronaldinho’s characteristic smile and his incomparable talent.
His physical condition was probably better than most expected, almost playing the whole game, yet the intensity of the match was possibly a bit too high for him. Despite that, not only did he have two of the best chances for his team, he also ensured record breaking audiences for the Kings League.
The match was streamed live on 3 different Twitch Channels, as well as on YouTube and TikTok, reaching a peak viewership of 2.12 million.
Strangely enough it was the first match in the Kings League to ever finish 0-0 and had to be decided with a penalty shootout as draws are not an option in this competition.
Yet this won’t be the last time we hear of Ronaldinho in connection to Gerard Piqué’s league, given the president himself announced that the ‘Ronnie’ will become the first owner of a Kings League club in Brazil, as part of their expansion around the world in 2024.
Piqué always thinks big, that’s why in his first season he’s already announced the play-off finals will be at the Camp Nou (it’s not far from being sold out at the moment), and the Queen’s League Oysho, which was presented recently, is set to kick off next April. Like Gerard Romero loves to say: “things are happening!”
