Real Madrid finally win a Clasico, but it was not without controversy
Real Madrid beat Barcelona 3-1 in Liga F on Sunday to reignite the title race.
They have finally done it. At the 19th attempt, Real Madrid have won a Clasico against Barcelona to complete what has been a dream week for Las Blancas.
Alberto Toril’s side came into the game following an impressive 2-0 first leg win against Arsenal in their Champions League quarter-final.
He rested seven players that started that home game for the Liga F, given their poor form against Barca, the fact that they were seven points behind Pere Romeu’s side ahead of the game and the fact the away leg against the Gunners was to come on Wednesday where Real know another positive result will see them through to a first ever Champions League semi-final.
The potent attacking trio of Signe Brunn, Caroline Weir and Linda Caicedo dropped to the bench for the game in Montjuic, but the influence of the latter two when brought on was key as they helped Las Blancas to an unlikely but welcome first win against Barca, that again was slightly controversial as was their European triumph during the week.
