Mayra Ramírez: The former Levante goal machine trying to fill a Sam Kerr shaped hole at Chelsea
Ramírez joined Chelsea from Levnate for a world record fee in women's football.
It has been a whirlwind start to 2024 for Colombian forward Mayra Ramírez and her new club Chelsea.
The 24-year old arrived in west London from Levante at the end of January on a four-and-a-half year deal for a reported world record transfer fee in the women's game of €450,000 if all clauses are met.
A day after her transfer was confirmed she came on as a substitute for her new club and showed a glimpse of her quality in their 3-0 win against Brighton.
She then made her full debut for the club last weekend as they beat Everton 3-0.
Ramírez has been thrown in at the deep end by Emma Hayes, especially considering the language barrier with the striker not yet able to speak English.
Yet, the length of the contract handed to Ramírez, and the fact she has already featured for Chelsea, shows the faith the manager and the club are willing to put in such a bright talent.
