The 2023 winter transfer window is almost a week old, and a handful of LaLiga clubs have wasted no time in looking to refresh their squad.
Alongside our customary transfer thread, we’ll be here every Friday to outline some of the most exciting deals of the week.
Pre-window buys
September 13th - Raúl de Tomás (28) - Espanyol to Rayo Vallecano, €8 million.
Having scored 17 goals in LaLiga last season, the slick-haired striker sealed a dramatic return to his former club, after he reportedly fell out with the powers that be at Cornellà.
So far ineligible to play, owing to the late completion of the move, we’re really excited to see R.D.T back in a Rayo shirt.
December 2nd - Luis Suárez (25) - Marseille to Almería, Loan (option to buy)
The Colombian forward returns to LaLiga after six months in France, playing just 290 minutes for Igor Tudor’s side.
Nonetheless, with three goals and an assist in that time, the former Granada man can make things happen, having taken the fifth-most shots in the Spanish top flight last campaign.
December 15th - Endrick (16) - Palmeiras to Real Madrid, €60 million.
Joining up with Los Blancos in 2024, the general consensus is that the astronomical fee, at least for a 16-year-old with just 306 first-team minutes, will seem like a bargain in the years to come.
We won’t see him on Spanish shores for a while, but if the hype is to be believed, we could be in for a treat.
December 27th - César Montes (25) - Monterrey to Espanyol, €8 million
One of the better performers of Mexico’s World Cup campaign, Espanyol look to have pulled off some great business here, snapping up a promising centre-back approaching his peak years.
Composed on the ball, progressive, and using his six-foot-four figure to dominate aerial duels, he should be a fixture of Los Periquitos’ defence.
December 27th -Youba Diarra (24) - Red Bull Salzburg to Cádiz, €1.1 million.
Adding some extra bite to Sergio’s midfield, Diarra should fit right in alongside the likes of Fede San Emeterio and Rubén Álcaraz.
Perhaps the move could see Álex Fernández pushed further forward, where he scored 13 goals and assisted six in their successful promotion campaign.
December 31st - Loïc Badé (22) - Rennes to Sevilla, Loan (option to buy)
With Marcão still struggling for fitness, we imagine Monchi has been waiting for this transfer window to open for a long, long time.
Badé looks to be a solid acquisition, with hopes that he can strike up a partnership with fellow Frenchman Tanguy Nianzou at the heart of Jorge Sampaoli’s defence.
January signings
January 5th - Lisandro Magallán (29) - Ajax to Elche, Free
And finally, as the theme of defensive signings continues, few teams need solidity at the back more than Elche.
33 goals conceded, with zero wins from their opening fifteen, we have our fingers crossed, for Pablo Machín’s sake, that the former Alavés centre-back can be even half as good as the last Argentine defender from Ajax called Lisandro…
That’s all for today, but make sure to check back next week for a fresh batch of transfers - we’re sure that there are going to be quite a few more!
