When the sale of Luiz Felipe to Al-Ittihad was confirmed on the final day of the Saudi Arabian transfer market, the worst fears of Manuel Pellegrini and Real Betis fans was realised.
They had lost their best centre-back with no viable possibility of replacing him. Manuel Pellegrini will now have to work (yet more) miracles to get Betis through to January with a meagre set of resources for such a crucial position. An exciting and positive summer of recruitment was eroded, the wave of optimism turned into a sea of doubts.
