Real Madrid made it through to the final, but it was far from a smooth ride.
Spanish football never fails to deliver, does it? You might have thought or expected that it would be a routine, comfortable night at the Santiago Bernabéu, Real Madrid having won the away leg in San Sebastián 1-0 five weeks ago. But football can often make the wisest look foolish. Instead, we were treated to a partidazo, an eight-goal thriller the like of which this grand stadium has never seen before. Literally, that is, because this was the first ever 4-4 result at the home of Los Blancos, the highest-scoring draw ever at the Bernabéu.
