Barcelona claim emphatic victory in Superclásico in the Supercopa
Barcelona Femeni beat Real Madrid 5-0 in the Supercopa final in Leganés.
Déjà vu anyone?
Just over two weeks ago Barcelona thrashed Real Madrid 5-2 in the men’s Supercopa de España final.
Fast forward to Sunday and Barcelona Femeni registered an emphatic 5-0 win against their rivals in the Supercopa de España Femenina final in Leganes.
It is the second time, after 2023 that both the men’s and women’s teams of Barcelona have won the Supercopa and the first time they beat Real Madrid in both finals.
That made it four straight Supercopa wins for Barcelona and represents the first trophy under Pere Romeu after he took over as manager in the summer.
It is not set to be the last, given they sit top of Liga F and have won all 16 of their games, they have safely secured their passage into the next round of the Champions League and are still in the Copa de la Reina.
And like most recent encounters with Los Blancos, Barcelona were completely dominant.
Caroline Graham Hansen opened the scoring on 31 minutes with a low deflected strike.
Polish striker Ewa Pajor then notched her first goals in El Clásico with a quickfire brace before half-time after having an earlier effort ruled off for offside by VAR.
The first she snuck in ahead of her marker to tap home from Ona Battle’s cross. The second was a well-taken header from Graham Hansen’s corner.
A rocket from Patri Guijarro from outside the box that flew into the top corner made it four on 62 minutes.
Captain Alexia Putellas, as she routinely does against Real Madrid, rounded off the scoring six minutes from time by bundling home the rebound as Barca began their quest to retain the quadruple they won last year, in style.
The stats are damning for Real Madrid, who are still awaiting their first piece of silverware and trail Barca by 11 points in Liga F, albeit with a game in hand.
Barcelona have won all 16 games that have been played between the two sides since Real Madrid reformed in 2020.

They have failed to score against their rivals since January 19th 2023. In the six games since, they have conceded 22 goals.
Putellas is the top scorer in El Clásico with 10 goals, four more than the whole Real Madrid team have mustered since the derbies began.
Given the quality Barcelona have, it is hard to see that record changing anytime soon, with the two sides set to meet again in the league in March.
Their starting eleven is that good that the likes of Keira Walsh (who did come on to make her 100th appearance for the club), Ingrid Engen, Salma Parauello and Kika Nazareth to name a few were on the bench.
You would be a fool to bet against Barcelona reclaiming all three domestic trophies and despite the competition from the likes of Chelsea and Lyon on the continent, retaining the Champions League does not seem beyond their reach too.
